THE EVE EDITION

AFTERGLOW | SAT OCT 10

Spain needed 14 minutes to beat the United States. Patricia Guijarro and Eva Navarro scored early before a sold-out crowd at Audi Field, and Adriana Nanclares made nine saves to protect a 2-0 win in a meeting of the world’s top two teams. Spain put only three shots on target all afternoon, and two of them were enough. The Americans had the territory and the chances for most of the match but never found a goal, and the rematch comes quickly, Tuesday in Chester, Pennsylvania.

In New Orleans, Liv Morgan regained the Women’s World Championship by pinning Stephanie Vaquer in a triple threat that also included Becky Lynch, and Tiffany Stratton climbed to the Money in the Bank briefcase for the second time. It was a hard Saturday to be from Wisconsin: #2 Ohio State finished a weekend sweep of the #1 Badgers in women’s hockey, and #1 Nebraska swept #7 Wisconsin in Lincoln to move to 17-0 in volleyball.

Spain Strikes Twice Early to Beat the USWNT

Spain scored twice in the first 14 minutes and held on to beat the United States 2-0 before a sellout crowd of 19,220 at Audi Field, a meeting of the reigning world champion and the reigning Olympic champion. Patricia Guijarro finished Edna Imade’s service in the third minute, and Eva Navarro doubled the lead from Salma Paralluelo’s assist in the 14th. U.S. goalkeeper Claudia Dickey did not face a shot in the second half.

The Americans outshot Spain 13-6 and put 10 attempts on target to Spain’s three, but Adriana Nanclares made nine saves. Emma Hayes made four changes in the 66th minute, among them Mallory Swanson in her first national-team match in 710 days, the 19th mother to play for the USWNT. It was Spain’s second win in five meetings with the United States and its first since 2022, and the teams meet again Tuesday in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Morgan Reclaims the Title as Stratton Wins Money in the Bank

Liv Morgan regained the WWE Women’s World Championship in New Orleans, pinning Stephanie Vaquer with Oblivion moments after Vaquer sent Becky Lynch into a ringside table. It is Morgan’s fourth world title and reverses the change in Chile, where Vaquer beat her with Lynch as special guest referee.

Earlier, Tiffany Stratton won the women’s ladder match for the second time, beating Jacy Jayne, Lash Legend, Roxanne Perez, Sol Ruca and Lola Vice to the briefcase. She did not cash in Saturday, so every women’s title match now carries the threat of her contract.
