Castro Breaks the Stalemate as Chivas Wins Again on the Road

Denise Castro supplied the only goal Guadalajara needed to beat Cruz Azul 1-0 and end a run of three consecutive draws between the clubs. Castro struck in the seventh minute, and Chivas made the early breakthrough stand despite Cruz Azul holding a slight 51 percent edge in possession. Guadalajara was the more dangerous side, doubling Cruz Azul in shots 12-6 and putting seven on target to the home side’s two.

It was Castro’s second consecutive match with a goal after she also opened the scoring in last week’s 2-0 victory at Tijuana. Chivas entered Friday second in Group B with 15 points and now moves to 18 through nine matches as it continues chasing the top of the group. Guadalajara had won nine of the previous 16 meetings and drawn the other seven, meaning Cruz Azul is still searching for its first victory in the matchup.
