Bella Devey needed less than a minute to turn North Carolina’s first ACC road test into a commanding lead. The sophomore scored twice in a 26-second burst against #16 Virginia, with Lilliah Blum setting up the first and Bella Gaetino the second, before Summer Denigan converted a penalty to make it 3-0. The top-ranked Tar Heels carried that advantage through halftime and won 3-1 in Charlottesville, improving to 10-1 and 3-0 in the ACC.
Devey’s brace gives her 12 goals this season, the most on the team. Virginia pushed back after halftime and finished with a 12-11 advantage in shots, but Hannah Johann made five saves and the Cavaliers could only break through on Addison Halpern’s penalty. Carolina has won seven straight since its lone loss, including ACC victories over Cal, then-#2 Duke and Virginia.
