Gotham Tightens Its Grip as San Diego Keeps Pace and Fishlock Rescues Seattle

Gotham FC took another step toward the first NWSL Shield in club history with a commanding 3-1 win over Chicago. Jaedyn Shaw struck in the ninth minute, Sam Kerr doubled the lead shortly after halftime and Shaw added her second in the 66th before Tessa Dellarose pulled one back late. Gotham controlled 72 percent of possession, completed 532 passes to Chicago’s 159 and put seven shots on target while allowing only one. The win moves Gotham to 54 points and keeps the league leader rolling with a third straight victory.

San Diego answered with a convincing 2-0 win at Racing Louisville. Gia Corley opened the scoring in the 27th minute before halftime substitute Ludmila needed only three minutes on the field to double the lead. The Wave finished with 20 shots, nine on target and 2.94 expected goals, forcing Jordyn Bloomer into seven saves while Racing managed only one effort on target. San Diego also completed a season sweep of Louisville after rallying from two goals down to win its first meeting 3-2 last month.
