Ortega Drives Athletic Past Atlético in Five-Goal Fight

Sara Ortega had a hand in all three Athletic Club goals Sunday as the Basque side beat Atlético de Madrid 3-2 in a frantic match at Lezama. Ortega set up Ane Azkona for the opener after just 24 seconds, scored the go-ahead goal herself just past the half-hour and drove the move that led to substitute Ane Campos' third.

Fiamma Benítez leveled for Atlético in the sixth minute, lifting a finish from the edge of the area after a corner. After Ortega restored the lead, the match turned chaotic. Atlético's Luany was sent off for a second yellow in the 56th minute, and Athletic's Clara Pinedo followed in the 70th, leaving it 10 against 10. Campos scored shortly after coming off the bench, and Gabi Nunes pulled Atlético within one in the 89th. Athletic then survived nine minutes of stoppage time to stay unbeaten at Lezama and reach 10 points through five rounds.
