Swanson Completes USWNT Comeback Against Spain

Mallory Swanson had not scored for the United States since the Olympic gold medal match in Paris, and the USWNT had not scored at all against Spain in this window. Both droughts ended Tuesday night. Ashley Sanchez and Swanson scored in the second half as the USWNT came from two goals down to draw world champion Spain 2-2 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania, before 18,648.

Swanson’s equalizer came in the 86th minute. Kate Del Fava, on the field for six minutes in her debut, played a long ball over Spain’s back line, and Michelle Cooper controlled it in the box, held it up and laid it back to Swanson, who took one touch, swiveled and volleyed from about 15 yards into the bottom left corner. It was her 39th international goal and her first since giving birth, making her the 12th mother to score for the USWNT.
