Wake Forest beat the top-ranked team in the country for only the second time in program history on Sunday, scoring three unanswered goals to take down #1 North Carolina 3-1 at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem.
Bella Devey gave the Tar Heels an early lead with her 15th goal of the season, set up by Scottie Antonucci. The #4 Demon Deacons answered with two goals 81 seconds apart. Henley Tippins scored in the 21st minute, and Allie Flanagan put Wake ahead a minute later, with Riley Cross assisting both. Kylie Maxwell made it 3-1 less than a minute into the second half. North Carolina had most of the ball after that, outshooting Wake 23-5 and winning 13 corners to three, but Valentina Amaral made six saves, and she now leads the ACC with a 0.62 goals-against average. Wake's only other win over a top-ranked team came against Stanford in September 2024.
