Wolfsburg Routs Mainz to Go Top

VfL Wolfsburg moved to the top of the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga on Sunday night with a 5-0 win at Mainz 05, at least until Bayern Munich plays again. Wolfsburg drew level on points with Bayern and passed them on goal difference, but Bayern has a match in hand and hosts VfB Stuttgart on Monday.

Mainz, newly promoted and still without a point, kept Wolfsburg out for more than half an hour before Ella Peddemors broke through in the 36th minute. She scored again in first-half stoppage time for a 2-0 lead at the break, and Wolfsburg settled the match within five minutes of the restart. Anny Kerim-Lindland scored in the 48th minute and Svenja Huth added the fourth in the 50th before Kessya Bussy completed the scoring in the 77th. The win was Wolfsburg's sixth in seven league matches, while Mainz stays at the bottom of the table, still looking for a first win.
