Hye-Jin Choi spent Friday in Shanghai trying to protect a lead rather than build one, and on a course that punished nearly everyone, that was enough. The South Korean shot a 2-over 74 in the second round of the Buick LPGA Shanghai and still leads at 6-under 138, two shots clear of Amy Yang and Grace Kim.
Choi opened with a 64 on Thursday, and her lead was three shots overnight. Her ball-striking held up again in the second round. She missed only one fairway and three greens, but the putter let her down, and she needed 38 putts for two birdies and four bogeys. "Actually, my body is not in perfect condition but I am still on the lead," she said. Choi has 12 wins in Korea and is chasing her first on the LPGA Tour.
