Ryu Eagles Twice, Shoots 64 to Take Two-Shot Lead in Haenam

Haeran Ryu made eagles on two par 5s, hit every green in regulation and shot an 8-under 64 on Friday to take a two-shot lead after the second round of the BMW Ladies Championship at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam, South Korea. The world #3 is at 13-under 131, has not made a bogey in 36 holes and is two rounds from her third LPGA title of the season.

Ryu started the day tied for third, one shot behind the co-leaders. She eagled the par-5 2nd and the par-5 6th to turn in 4-under 32, then added birdies at the 12th, 13th, 17th and 18th on the way in. She hit 13 of 14 fairways and all 18 greens, and needed 32 putts. Over two days she has missed one green, at the 5th on Thursday, and chipped in for birdie there.

Min-sun Kim matched the 64 and is tied for second at 11 under with Lauren Coughlin. Kim, a KLPGA player making only her second LPGA start, made eight birdies and no bogeys after opening with a 69. She has won twice on the KLPGA Tour this year and plans to enter the LPGA’s qualifying tournament in the coming months. A win this week would make her eligible for LPGA membership and let her skip that process. Coughlin, who shared third after the first round, went bogey-free for a 66 with six birdies.

Davidson and Yoshida Share Lead in Haenam as Ryu Stays Close

Karis Davidson of Australia and Yuri Yoshida of Japan each shot a 6-under 66 on Thursday to share the first-round lead at the BMW Ladies Championship at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam, South Korea. Neither has won on the LPGA Tour. Both sit one shot clear of a four-player group that includes world #3 Haeran Ryu, who has won two majors this season.

Davidson started on the 10th tee and built her round on a run of six birdies in an eight-hole stretch. Yoshida matched her at 66 on a par-72 course that gave up few low scores. Only 17 players in the 83-player field broke 70.

Ryu shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 and missed only one green all day. That came at the 5th, and she chipped in from off the putting surface for birdie. She won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the Evian Championship this summer, has earned $4.5 million on the LPGA this season, and won the KLPGA’s Hite Jinro Championship earlier this month. A win this week would be her third LPGA title of the year.

Ruoning Yin Runs Down Hye-Jin Choi for Second Shanghai Title

Ruoning Yin won the Buick LPGA Shanghai on home soil for the second time in three years, closing with a 4-under 68 at Sheshan Golf Club to beat Hye-Jin Choi by one stroke. Yin finished at 11-under 277. Choi, who led after each of the first three rounds, shot 71 and finished alone in second at 10-under 278.

The title is the seventh of Yin's LPGA career and her second of the season, following her two-stroke win at the FM Championship at TPC Boston in August. Her first Shanghai title came in 2024 at Shanghai Qizhong Garden Golf Club, where she shot 25-under 263 and won by six. With a major already on her record from the 2023 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, she has now won this event twice on two different courses.

Yin's week did not start like a champion's. She opened with 68, slipped to 74 in the second round and needed a bogey-free 67 on Saturday to climb to 7-under, two shots behind Choi entering the final round. Choi sat at 9-under after 54 holes, one clear of Amy Yang.

Choi Leads by One in Shanghai as Yang and Yin Close In

Hye-Jin Choi has led the Buick LPGA Shanghai after every round, but the cushion that once looked safe is down to a single stroke. The South Korean shot a 3-under 69 at Sheshan Golf Club on Friday night Eastern time to reach 9 under through 54 holes, one ahead of Amy Yang and two ahead of China's Ruoning Yin, who both went lower than the leader in the third round.

Choi did her scoring early, making four birdies on the front nine to stretch her lead again after a shaky second round. She opened the week with a 64 to lead by three, slipped to a 74 in the wind a day later and still held a two-shot edge, and the 69 brought back the control that had gone missing a day earlier. She has won 12 times in South Korea and is still chasing her first LPGA Tour title.

Yang signed for a 68, and her rounds of 69, 71 and 68 make her the only player in the top three without a score over par this week. The 2024 KPMG Women's PGA Championship winner moved into sole second and will play the final round with a major title already on her record.
