Texas’ Farah O’Keefe and Washington’s Hannah Ounap shared the individual title at the St Andrews Links Collegiate on Tuesday, the first co-medalists in the event’s history, after a wind-battered second round on the Jubilee Course left them as the only two players under par.
Both finished 36 holes at 2-under 142. Ounap, a Scot, had opened with a 6-under 66 on Monday, with an eagle at the 3rd and birdies at the 1st, 5th, 6th, 12th and 18th. O’Keefe, the world’s #1 amateur, was a shot behind after a 5-under 67 that included seven birdies. Tuesday brought gusts up to 25 mph and rain, and scoring all but disappeared. “That was really, really tough,” Ounap said after a second-round 76. “I’m so glad to have got through and finish well and managed to hit some good shots. I’m really proud.”
