Prozorova Stuns Eala for the Biggest Win of Her Career

Tatiana Prozorova arrived in Singapore ranked #180 with three tour-level victories in her career and no WTA quarterfinal appearances. Now she has her first Top 20 win. The 22-year-old came from a set and 4-2 down to stun #3 seed Alexandra Eala 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a three-hour marathon. It was Eala’s first loss to a player outside the Top 100 in exactly a year.

The comeback was becoming strangely familiar territory for Prozorova. She also trailed Sofia Costoulas by a set and 4-2 in the opening round before escaping in three, meaning both victories of her breakthrough week have required her to climb out of almost the same hole. Before Singapore, her only previous Top 50 victory had come against Tatjana Maria at a WTA 125 in January. Prozorova will face Wang Xinyu in her first tour-level quarterfinal after Wang recovered from 4-1 down in the opening set to beat Joanna Garland 7-5, 6-4.
