Solomon Takes the Main Event as Four #1’s Fall at Who’s Number One

Marlee Solomon closed the girls card with the comeback of the night, erasing a 6-2 deficit against fellow U17 world champion Epenesa Elison to win 6-6 on criteria at 125 pounds. Elison appeared to have control after consecutive takedowns in the second period, but Solomon scored a late go-behind, forced a stepout with seven seconds remaining and received the tying point on a final caution. The victory moved Solomon to #1 and gave her another win over Elison after beating her 10-5 at the U20 World Team Trials earlier this year.

Three other #2s knocked off top-ranked opponents, making it four #1s defeated across the 11-match card. Marie Sharp rallied from 6-0 down against Emma Bacon at 130, opening the second period with a four-point fireman’s carry before countering Bacon’s final inside-trip attempt to seal a 10-8 victory. Isla Silva recovered from Sarissa Tucker’s highlight-reel 360-spin takedown to win 4-2 at 110. Abigail Peterson delivered the only upset by fall, pinning Madison Healey at 100.
